Our 50th Reunion
A Blockbuster for All

By Mike Henle

An enthusiastic crowd of about 160 Rancho classmates participated in a blockbuster Class of 1969 50th Anniversary Reunion weekend September 27-28, 2019.
The reunion group first gathered September 27th to tour the new Rancho High School. Our Rancho is now a magnet school and has been recognized as a magnet school of excellence. The tour also visited the Rancho aviation quarters. Rancho is the only school of its kind in the district, to offer programs for students interested in aviation and aerospace.
On Friday night, we were off to Tommy Rocker’s Bar and Grill for music, drinks, a delicious cake, mingling, dancing, raffles and entertainment by Tommy Rocker himself.
On Saturday morning, classmates enjoyed visiting Welderup Garage, which features an incredible collection of diesel engine hot rods. The tour was conducted by owner Steve Darnell, host of the TV show “Vegas Ratrods” and son of our very own classmate Colleen Lewis (Crabb).
Wrapping up weekend festivities we gathered at the Italian American Super Club on East Sahara Avenue. We enjoyed good food and spent time renewing old friendships. The evening included a Veterans Tribute, deceased classmates’ recognition, keepsakes, raffles, music and dancing. The reunion weekend went by so fast. It was nothing more than a moment in time. It’s only in these moments that many of us realize how much we miss those days.
Our reunion attracted classmates from numerous states all over the country with a wide array of professions.
In a nutshell, everyone had an absolute blast! Donna Adams (Klingonsmith), who doubled as the event’s organizer, was among the classmates who had a very memorable time.
“It was so much fun,” she said. “It was wonderful seeing everyone and it was such a joy to visit with other classmates. In fact, it didn’t matter if we hadn’t seen one another for the past 50 years. Simply put, it was one of those events that none of us will ever forget.”    “A great time was had by everyone!”

Our 50th Reunion Cruise

By Sue Clarke (Hendrix)

On October 6th eighteen classmates, family, and friends boarded the SS Oosterdam for 8 days, 7 nights of fun along the coast of Mexico.   We ate delicious food, watched great entertainers, went on interesting shore excursions in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta and had fun exploring our ship or getting lost on it.   We met every evening at our tables by the windows at the back of the ship where we watched dolphins playing, discussed the day’s adventures and dined on good food.   On the ship we were treated to a cocktail party, a delicious Italian dinner, a great lunch at the ship’s steak house, and many other unexpected gifts provided by our wonderful class mate and cruise planner, Linda Harris (Sharp) think everyone would say that the best part of the cruise was getting to know each other better.
